You may be asking “Lex, why would you choose to do a gap year? And what are you expecting to get out of this?”

My response to this would have to be my Heavenly Father. He has called me to trust in him day by day.

I thought I would be like most people and go to college right after highschool, have a roommate, create a new me , major in business, and join a bunch of clubs. I was eager! Once being accepted to my dream college I set out to find a roommate! I had prayed an extremely detailed prayer over the girl I would be living with for the next 9 months. Little did I know, while my phone was on do not disturb I got a message on instagram  from Maura Winfield. She had seen my most recent post about getting accepted to John Brown (GO EAGLES) and wanted to congratulate me! We began to talk about our interests and  the subject of roommates came up! We both said we didn’t have one yet! So why not room with a random girl off the internet? Long story short, Maura and I began to plan out our dorm room and put down deposits on boarding. We finally met up and began to hangout regularly. We got closer and opened up about our concerns and both realized a private college might not be the best option for us. But we also reminded each other that if God really called us to JBU he would make a way. We both continued to pray that God would show us his will. To put it short we both kept being brought back to each other not JBU. I would pray that God would make a way in a situation regarding JBU and Maura would be struggling with the same thing. One day Maura and I were hanging out and she had brought up the world race! I had heard about it previously but thought “that could never be me”. We began to talk about world race and pray about it trying to figure out if this was where God was actually calling both of us to be! We decided it would be better to pray separately and come back and see if we had the same calling. (I’m not a huge fan of spoilers but I think you can guess what are calling ended up being) We both applied to World Race and God had continued to show us confirmation through scripture.“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.”

John 12:26

So with all that being said if you’re still confused on why I said yes to world race let me summarize for you!

I have a Heavenly Father who cares for me in the day to day! He calls us to trust him and seek him EVERYDAY.

God had other plans for my first year out of highschool. While I don’t know everything God is going to teach me through this journey I know that I am called to live by faith not by sight. So whatever I do, let it be for the Lord!
